Do you understand your Pay stub?

One of the things I struggled with after getting my first job in Canada was understanding my pay stub. After I got my first payment, I calculated my expected income based on my hourly rate, and the amount deposited in my account was lower. I thought I wasn’t paid in full until HR told me to check my pay stub. I finally saw the pay stub and was surprised about the amount of deductions until I learned what they were. I’m still aware we pay a lot of taxes in Canada nonetheless.

This provides the definition of common elements on a pay stub.

Everyone has different variations for the amount of deductions they get based on their workplace, the previous picture was how my previous workplace deductions were set up vs my current workplace where there are a lot more deductions

I hope this post allows you understand your pay stub better, let me know if you have any questions in the comments!
