Boquete, the adventurers’ dream!

When planning my trip to Panama, I was very particular about having diverse experiences from spending time on beaches to jungle adventures. Boquete was the spot where I could do all my jungle and outside adventures!

Day 1: We’re taking it slow today…

I landed in Boquete around 9 am and it was an hour's flight from Panama City. The first thing on my mind was food, I was so hungry so I got food from the restaurant at Selina (Dobo) and it was very good.

Today was a slow day, so after I settled into my cylinder room, I slept until it was time for dinner. Right after dinner, I checked out the hostel’s amenities and went to bed. If you have the time, I’ll recommend a nightlife tour, I wanted to do this but there were not a lot of people for the tour and I was more comfortable doing this with a local.

Day 2: Let the Adventures Begin!

Let’s go Zip lining with Tree Trek Boquete, I went on 12 Ziplines and a total of 4.5 Km. My guides Luis and Oscar were the best, they taught me some espanol and we talked about living in Panama, why they loved their jobs and a lot more. I was picked up from Selina Hostel and dropped back there. After this I went back for lunch at Dobo, their food was really good but I wish I tried some other restaurants on my list. You could also do the hanging bridges tour with Tree Trek and a market tour with a cooking class, I couldn’t do them because my money was running low and there was no space for the market tour. Something to note for solo travellers, you may not be able to do some excursions because they require more than one person which is why you should try to make friends with other solo travellers to be able to do more stuff.

Day 3: The Ultimate Adventure (Volcano Baru)

I had an early start today at 3 am for this activity, we were going to watch the sunrise on Volcano Baru, which is the highest point in Boquete and the 12th highest peak in Central America. This was a magical experience!

We were picked by a big 4x4 and then we started one of the scariest journeys of my life, imagine driving up a steep incline with big boulders for more than an hour. It was scary but very worth it. We made it in time for the sunrise and interestingly it was raining in the town while we were up there. The weather there was 15 degrees, so you would need a jacket or you can use one of theirs and you also get breakfast at the peak! Check out some of the views below.

We got back to town around 10 am so I had a lot of time to myself. The Ideal thing I’d recommend is to visit the waterfalls and hot springs but there was a minimum requirement for me. I ended up walking on Front Street and exploring Boquete, I also went to the store to buy juice and some noodles but the noodles were not good, don’t be like me, eat good food always when on vacation!

Where to eat in Boquete

I didn’t get to eat in all of these places but based on my research you should check them out;

  • Dobo - 9/10

  • Sugar and Spice

  • The Rock

  • El Sabroson

  • Fresas Mary
